Nicole Tang, artist, in her studio cutting paintings to create her new art collection

As a Caribbean artist from Trinidad and Tobago, this artist has expanded her repertoire from her diverse explorations as a creative. From fine arts, to murals and photography, Nicole Tang is a multi-disciplinary artist with an excellent eye for design and an unexhausted source of creative ideas that she expresses in her work.

With BA Visual Arts and Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies, she was an art teacher for several years, where she enjoyed working with children in art education. She expanded this joy to independent projects that focused on outdoor art sessions for young children and volunteer work.

“Every act of creation begins with an act of destruction.”

– Pablo Picasso

While the artist has a vast portfolio of work, and explored many themes in her painting portfolio, a signature art style she developed is from destroying her collections of art. She has cut and torn over 100 paintings in her art collections as a form of Reinvention and Metamorphosis to redefine and transform her artistic expressions. She has created tapestries of work by weaving these pieces of cut paintings together and created beautiful collages. These works of art represent a montage of history, stories, and inspiration in the artist’s career.

Nicole Tang’s art works continue to be dynamic, playful, and expressive with a strong concept of Evolution. Her most recent explorations in creating abstract reinterpretations of her well known Chinese ink paintings in the Metamorphosis collection is a dynamic interplay of the elements of the mountains, a repeated motif in her paintings, ocean and the wind in constant motion.

She has exhibited her work locally and internationally, and continues to embark on international projects such as the iconic design and mural work on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas.

Nicole Tang is also a professional photographer. After years of studying Fine Art, she picked up her camera again, which was always one of her interests. Composing photos was effortless and she explored various genres of photography, with an emphasis on storytelling; the storytelling of her own life, documentation of her work and ideas, and the storytelling of her outdoor adventures and people she have observed along the way.
